Photographs of people from a 19th Century album handed down from my Great Grandmother Louisa Edgerley nee Hannaford.
This album came into my hands in 2007 and as is often the case - very few photos were labelled.
Two photos taken in Torquay Devon.  Torquay 1 and Torquay 2 the reverse side have photographers details  - left  is Torquay 1 - obviously the images are similar and I am hoping to get an expert opinion on dates.  No 2 has a number hand written on the back either 13107 or /3107.
Photo 1 is possibly the mother of Louisa's father John Pitts Hannaford who was from Devon, he married Louisa Lee (Elizabeth) Kennaird from Brighton, England,  in Ballarat 1861 - see details on the Landmarks in the early life of Louisa.... page.  We do not know how or when they travelled to Australia - it is a few years since I searched shipping lists.

Tom Hannaford in Ballarat with his wife or wife to be circa early 1890's A Flegeltaub,  School of Photography, Ballarat.
Bad luck that there is no wedding couple photo of  Louisa's parents from their big day in 1861.
Four men at exploratory gold diggings near Ballarat. Photographer, T. Flintoff, Sturt Street, Ballarat. Line of workings runs to back left.   This photo was not in the album but is from my mothers boxes.

From Fiji photographers -
Louisa's young brother Tom Hannaford  b 1865 age estimate 8-9 F & A Dufty Photographers Levuka and Suva, Fiji - That dates the above photo at 1873-74 and indicates they went to Fiji fairly soon after being orphaned.
Our Great Grandfather William Edgerley sitting, Photographer F H Dufty Levuka Fiji - guessing 1880-81, man standing is unknown.

Some Auckland photos -
Sarah Newnham Edgerley b 1812 widow of John Edgerley the "botanist" age maybe 55 to 60 putting the photo possibly before 1870 G Pulman Photographer Auckland. The oldest photo we have of Sarah.
Sarah's eldest son Jack Edgerley b 1846 aged about 40  I guess.  My impression is that he was the main driver behind the Fiji plantation which I understand was embarked upon to take advantage of high cotton prices during the American Civil War years.
Sarah Edgerley b1850 sister of Jack and William, possibly about 30, she married into the Whyman family.
Married couple William and Louisa Edgerley, guessing mid to late 1880's
Louisa and her brother Tom in Auckland, similar date as above  Hanna Photographers.

Fremantle photograph of Tom Hannaford and family circa 1905-1910 est his age at 40-45; no idea what they did in WA. Photographer Nixon & Merrilees Opposite Town Hall Fremantle.

The album contained several 6 x 10cm picture cards produced by the photography firms of a cultural nature; these might be portraits of  political figures, historical tableaux, royalty, morality or religious themes.  Bringing pictorial material to more people before illustrated magazines & newspapers I suppose.

Queen Victoria holding child - card not annotated
Is this a prominent woman for the masses to view or a Ballarat girl dressed to kill?  Flintoff Photographer Sturt St Ballarat.

Older man in tasselled  cap, could he be Scottish ?   H Glenny Photographic Artist  Ballarat East.

Two unknown men outside house with stone wall/fence - the stone fence could be Auckland OK but I wondered if there were any fences like that in Ballarat district ?  Photo from my mothers boxes.
