William Edgerley was a builder, these
could be his workmen. The man in bowler hat could
be Walter Whyman see photo below, so it is possible this is Walter Whyman's
work crew. |

St Marks Remuera, a short walk
from Edgerley Avenue, local church for the Edgerley's for many decades.
Several family members were buried in the church yard and when I visited
a few years ago their gravestones formed part of a wall at the rear of
the church. |

Half of duplex house, 105 Keele St, Collingwood,
Melbourne. Where my paternal grandfather Edward Walter Arthur b 9 April,
1884 likely lived as a boy. He had assumed the surname Hughes by the time
he married my grandmother in New Plymouth in 1907, see photo in next decade.
The address comes from an 1898 Melbourne directory. His parents were Samuel
Arthur from Cornwall who I understood was a butcher and Alice Mary (nee
Maggs), they were married in 1874. Edward had two older brothers, George
Samuel b 1875 and William John Harry b 1880. Side
view shows the house is two storied in the back. Photo from year
2000. |
