John Edgerley born in Auckland 26, July, 1846 (known as Jack). Eldest son of John and Sarah Edgerley (nee Newnham). These first two photos might be from the late 1860's.  See my web site http://uk.geocities.com/edgerleyi   for more information on life of John and Sarah Edgerley.  They had three children,  Jack,  William and Sarah Newnham Edgerley b 1850, (see photo in 1890's as Mrs Whyman.).
William Edgerley born in Auckland 4, April, 1848. My maternal grandfather's father.
Ship "Avalanche", (picture from book White Wings) which brought out the Barrett family to New Plymouth 22, Jan., 1875 including Elizabeth Ann then 13 who was to marry Richard O'Donnell and become my fathers maternal grandmother. See family group outside Tongaporutu Post Office in 1900's section.  The Avalanche passenger list has entries for Barrett as follows. John, 40 Farm Labourer, Cornwall;    Catherine 40; Ellen, 19 Servant; Mary, 16 Servant; Susan C, 14; Elizabeth A, 13; Alfred John,  9; James, 7 ; Sarah,  3; Richard, 4m.

William Edgerley
Sarah Edgerley (nee Newnham) born ~ 1812,  mother of John, William and Sarah.
Photo by Australian Photographic Company No 1391. Photographers surname Boag. Earliest Hannaford photo circa 1869 showing Louisa (b 21 June 1863)  with her mother and father and young brother Tom b 1865.  Her parents John Pitts Hannaford and Louisa Elizabeth (nee Kennaird) were from Torquay Devon and Brighton,  married at St Pauls Church  Ballarat 17 March 1861 and they both died young near Ballarat - Durham Lead I think.   John Pitts died in 1869 and his wife Louisa Elizabeth died in 1870, as did their eldest son Harry Pitts Hannaford b 1862. Louisa's young brother Tom raised a family in Auckland circa the 1890's (see photo in later decade) and my mother remembers him as Uncle Tom. Louisa married William Edgerley in Auckland on 12 Nov 1881 after working in Fiji. After being orphaned Louisa and Tom were in the Ballarat Orphanage and Asylum where they were fostered by a lady named Leeuwin and taken to Fiji. The documents & story of Louisa and Tom going to Fiji is on a little 5page 1.3Mb pdf I made. Louisa was my mothers Grandmother.  Here she is in a family group possibly in her 60's. William Walter Edgerley my Grandfather is third from left back row.
