Great Albo Cool & Wet Period in Australian mean temperature history

This chart of Australian Govt Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) ACORN V2.3 land station mean temperature series vs NASA lower troposphere satellites UAH, thanks to Chris Gillham, www.waclimate.net/australia-cooling.html
My annotation on Chris’ chart indicates the “Great Albo Cool & Wet Period” (GACWP)

Note Albo is the nick for our GreenLeft Australian Prime Minister Albanese. The GACWP starts after the heat of 2019 to the present day and has not ended. It will take a few months near 3 deg mean anomaly to end the GACWP.
Those of us who follow weather news would have noticed the effort BoM have been putting into talking up heat. Remember their “Heatwave” warning www page – sadly launched in the GACWP. BoM monthly data from here –

  1. Good for a chuckle calling it the Great Albo Cool and Wet Period.

I suppose the government can claim that since it came to power their climate change policies have resulted in a cooling of Australian temperatures.

Well … no, they won’t do that because then there might not be a good excuse for endangering Australian electricity prices and reliability in coming years.

Besides, the government probably doesn’t and won’t know about the official anomaly cooling over the past 11 years because the media is too busy banging on about the heatwave apocalypse.

Note that these calculations are an average of the first half v the second half of all monthly ACORN anomalies from January 2012 to July 2023.

If August 2023 anomalies turns out to be very hot, as were June and July (in the eastern states, but not in WA), it may well be that the duration of the cooling will be shortened from a start month of January 2012 to March, June, July or whatever of 2012.

If our current month has an anomaly of +3.0C, as you hypothesise, the duration would be shortened to March 2012 to August 2023 (it would be March 2012 – November 2017 = +0.955C vs December 2017 – August 2023 = +0.935C).

We’ll probably have an El Nino until early to mid next year so I’m expecting the latter half to warm somewhat, although it’s worth remembering that the latter half includes 2019 which was Australia’s driest and hottest year on record, following ACORN cooling adjustments to most earlier years back to 1910.

July NASA satellites lower troposhere temperatures by UAH –
Interesting in view of July headlines that NASA found the lower trop cool anomaly from UK to Moscow.
Also much of the USA not hot.

It does suggest to me that the Fair Australia campaign for a No Vote could host a series of monster meetings around the nation if they had the resources.

I have blogged many times on Tas generation issues and remember Basslink never made a profit. Tas Hydro debts still around $2Bn I think.
Calling Marinus (massive) is misleading – the scale of Tas contribution to the NEM means it is only a “bit player”. Tas Hydro should concentrate on powering Tasmania.
