We knew as data came in for November that the BoM Australian mean temperature series ACORN 2.2 showed broad agreement with lower troposphere NASA satellite data from the University of Alabama at Huntsville as both showed a cooler period after 2020 – see chart by Perth based Chris Gillham of Scribeworks at waclimate.net/australia-cooling.html We know that Australia is experiencing its third consecutive LaNina and a few years of much rainfall and flooding. As December started there were BoM sourced media stories of heatwaves or forecast heatwaves but I am not aware of any heatwaves happening much. Next the marvellous JoNova blogged on Australia’s lowest summer temp on record from the morning of 9Dec22 at Perisher Valley NSW reported by Weatherzone.
In case we thought this was some sort of a lone swallow or fluke – on the 14Dec22 at Mount Hotham we saw reported by Weatherzone again Victoria’s lowest summer temp on record of minus 5.4 at Mount Hotham BoM station 83085 beating minus 5.2 on 20 Dec 1978.
Then on the 15th Chris Gillham advised our email group of several cold records across New South Wales in the early hours that morning.
Chris reports – [Glen Innes in NSW this morning recorded -1.7C which was its
first ever subzero temperature during any summer.
Cobar MO this morning 8.0°C, the lowest December temperature in 67 years
Cobar (airport AWS 6.9C coldest December min since opening in 1993)
Narrabri this morning 5.6°C, the lowest December temperature in 60 years
Tamworth this morning 4.6°C, the lowest December temperature in 65 years
Burrinjuck Dam this morning 4.7°C, the lowest December reading in 50 years]
Chris continues – [All in line with Australia’s cooling climate over the past 11 years, Perth
recording its 16th coldest ever November day, Melbourne also recording its 16th
coldest ever November day as well as its 23rd coldest day which is the first year
ever that two November days have fallen within Melbourne’s coldest ever 23.]
Links and screen saves will be added as time permits today.
If anybody sees relevant media about our summer temperatures please advise.

Tasmanian summer on hold as Hobart records coldest December day in 50 years 16Dec22
This is anecdotal, but real observation and measurement:
I live in the NSW high(er) mountains and this 2022 spring was definitely cold and somewhat wet. I have four (4) deciduous trees that flowered as usual but whose leaves then became crippled by persistent cold – one has subsequently died. (Two other deciduous plants, though, have done their typical spring thriving). So I’ve figured that there is some empirical evidence for a colder spring here than earlier years.
Subsequently, I was not looking forward to my spring gas heating invoice. It turns up like clockwork by mid-December.
And so it has. Except for a difference of 4 days over 3 months (very close to the same period as 2021), the amount of gas I used this spring was 43% *less* than the same period in 2021. Despite racking my failing memory, I don’t understand that.
No, I didn’t volunteer to shiver away in 5 over jumpers and fleeced ugg boots to help save the planet 🙂
The BoM also predicted early cyclones for this season we are now in.
I suspect that the cyclones have not learned to read yet. They do not realize that BoM wants them to be active right NOW – to support their narrative.
They also stuck to the age-old magic number of 13 cyclones to effect Oz this season.
We have not seen 13 in a season for decades!!!
Remember when BoM used to be a credible organization of considerable help to farmers?????
O/T but a subject raised on this blog in the past:
Long downplayed “conspiracy theory” may well be correct:

Yes Bob with the release of many thousands of documents relating to murder of JFK it is becoming more common for people to be aware that the Warren Commission was a very flawed witness tampering and bullying process – ditto evidence tampering process too. If you search JFK on this blog you will find a few other blogs of mine and a recent 14 point list of up to date conclusions of mine and others.
Now I want to post 3 BoM max t anomaly maps for weekly periods this month showing that Australia has cooled so far through December 2022.
First week ended 9Dec22
then week ended 16Dec22
then week ended 21Dec22.
To continue from above’s post on cold temps in Dec, Casino (NSW) had its second coldest Dec minimum on record at 9.0C last Tuesday – lowest was back in Dec, 1966.
“””Cyclone””” Ellie has been and gone.
It had a life of 12 hours.
Minimum pressure achieved was 992 and max continuous wind speed was 58 kph (THEIR ABC reported gusts up to 110 kph).
So our wonderful narrative-pusher , BoM, claims this was a cyclone. Are they joking?
Good spotting, trm.
How is this a Cat 1 cyclone? 55kmph?
www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDD20020.txt
Present definition – 63kmph.

And if you scroll down, you’ll see a Cat 1 has been downgraded from 90kmph (SS scale).
