ABC reports Dams are near capacity across New South Wales, with authorities monitoring flood risks and rain forecast – farmers are wanting water entitlements to grow summer crops. Bureaucracies have been anti-dams for yonks. The NSW Water Minister reflects this. I hope farmers get the water they need for summer crops. But my blog headline says what is the certainty.
Everything that can hold water is full around here tanks, dams. creeks, rivers, grass, ground and fire wood.
What would be nice is some of this hot air they imagined.
“Climate change caused by humans pumping greenhouse gas pollution into the atmosphere is contributing to the drying out of south-eastern Australia. In a drier climate any new dams will fill with hot air faster than water.”

That 2007 article inspired by Flannery was a good find Silligy. Everything old is new again.
News today says ‘Wettest July in decades’ for parts of Australia likely following soaking week
A conveyor belt of cold fronts is set to batter large swathes of Australia plunging temperatures and bringing rain not seen in winter for years. 26Jul21
This week started well for Perth with catchments set to possibly score ~50mm for today – if there were rain gauges.
Huge levels of rainfall in the Perth dam catchment area this month (July 2021). With rain more to come in the next few days, Bickley has already recorded 423mm to 9:00 am 29 July, eclipsing previous record of 364mm set in 2000.
The Water Corp continues to display Perth rainfall on its dam levels webpage, even though not a drop of rain that falls on Perth finds its way into the dams. I’ve requested they switch to displaying rainfall levels in the catchment area instead.
