We have had an LNP Fed. Govt. for near seven years now – how good have they been?
Here is a quick list of what I think are their major failings.
Not in any particular order.
[1] Failing to rein in the ABC to be more balanced.
[2] Failing to rein in the Public Service to be less green/left.
[3] Failing to find a more rational line re “climate change”.
[4] No new dams despite big talk in 2013.
[5] Failed to control the NDIS and NBN spending inherited from Labor.
[6] Failed or were tardy to combat Family Day Care criminal rorts.
[7] Spent big but talked as though they were thrifty see July 2020 RBA chart.
[8] Snowy 2.0.
[9] Thinking that abolishing the Carbon Tax was solving something long term.

[10] Doing nothing about the MRET scheme.
[11] Doing nothing to prolong life of coal fired power – Hazelwood and Liddell.
[12] Talked big about reducing electricity prices but in the end it is probably Covid19 that has helped them there.
[13] Failing to stop some States gas exploration bans.
[14] Learning nothing from the Chinese militarisation of South China Sea.
[15] Allowing Darwin Port to be leased to the Chinese.
[16] Seemingly asleep to the Sinofication of our universities.
[17] Seemingly asleep to Sinofication influences in our political life.
[18] Fail to take steps to close the gap.
[19] Fail to arrest the slide in international measures of our education standards.
I drew a line before Covid19.
But you have to agree Warwick that apart from those things the government has done pretty well?
Joking of course and had you not drawn the line before WuFlu I’m sure you would still be typing.
Amen to everything you have said there. And there are more as well, particularly in relation to China. Also the control of the Murray Darling Basin water system, and the agriculture and real estate, and primary industries reliant on it.
Yes I missed the MDB Plan but have blogged against environmental flows several times. Just remember Greens are happy when our river water runs direct to the sea.
Another major item I missed is the barking mad Turnbull submarines concept purchase from the French.
Re 7 in the list enjoy Chart 4 from the RBA in July 2020 – see the jump up exactly after the Abbott election win Sept 2013

A list to slit one’s wrists by (Tom Lehrer, I think)
From 2013, the majority of the population has voted three times to end the green rorts and keep the power grids viable. Yet all that has happened is that the Libs (State and Federal) have just gone sneaky about it. Liddell will close in 12 months or so, losing close to 2 GW from the grid while AGL pretend that adding 750MW of “wind” is full compensation. Our Gladys, and Marketing Scotty, play pretend crocodile tears. The clear intention is to reduce demand, not increase supply.
The AEMO, run by a lunatic Turnbull pick, is crying for $billions to run “wind” from the Simpson Desert on the assertion that “the wind is always blowing somewhere”.
Through the Looking Glass with Alice.
The two 2014 Malaysian airliner disasters – 8th March 2014 and 17th July 2014 were diversions from sound Government that absorbed PM Abbott’s time. He should have delegated the consuming commentary on those issues and concentrated more on sound admin.
Pretty awful record, that’s true. Plus, the LNP has:
– Failed to repeat section 18c of the Human Rights Act, meaning that it is still a crime in Australia merely to “offend” or “insult” someone in public – a major restriction of free speech going far beyond traditional libel laws
– Failed to trim middle-class welfare
– Failed to abolish useless government departments, or reduce overlap with the States
– Failed to significantly cut useless regulation
– Failed to cut excessive pay of senior public employees
– Failed to tackle the cancel culture in universities, and the use by universities of Codes of Conduct to restrict academic debate.
The Libs have virtually just been Labor-lite the whole way through. Result: not a single budget surplus, all the way to Covid, which they and the states have now botched on a monumental scale, damaging prospects for prosperity for years to come.
Only a few days ago now, I inadvertently saw a segment of a press briefing with Morrison being “confidential” (that is, pandering to their egos by intimating the journos were a superior species).
He was quietly on about “global warming and climate change”.
Understand – we may vote anyway we wish, it makes no difference. They just go sneaky and ignore the vote, whoever wins. Morrison is a turd, like Turnbull.
