  1. As I recall the 2003 fire that devastated Canberra burned unmolested for a week or more in the bush before eventually releasing a firestorm on Canberra. I don’t know whether there’s been much effort put into fuel reduction burns on the outskirts of Canberra this year but if the efforts in our Leftist ruled national capital are similar what we’ve seen this year in the nearby Peoples Democratic Republic of Victoria (essentially bugger all) then I suspect there’s cause for alarm in Canberra.
What we’ve seen here in PDRV in recent years is a politically motivated aversion to doing controlled burns, lest it should offend the Green/Left friends of Gaia. What we’ve seen instead is millions spent on an ever growing fire-fighting air-force, trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.

  2. I question the cost effectiveness of extensive use of aerial fire bombing.
Politicians and the media thrill at the sight and clamor for more.
But the financial costs are huge.
There seem to be many fire experts questioning their increased use.
