A rare event for the ABC as Manjimup farmers make the news. Anybody who has been following the issues knows that “our drying climate” and other related slogans have been WA Govt mantra since the introduction of seawater desalination ~2004.

Perth watercrats would assume that stream/river water wasting to the sea was a sign of great policy success. Just like rain water evaporating and transpiring to the sky through excess bush in Perth Dam catchments is a great success. Greens kept happy. Farmers can go jump.
Warwick,
I realise this is OT, but it really peeves me when this happens.
‘Dry weather is also common in the NT’s vast Red Centre during September, although the current dry spell gripping Alice Springs is unprecedented.
Alice Springs Airport hasn’t received any rain since the middle of April.’
Not unprecedented. Check 1883.

How do we stop these people from giving false information?
I am amazed Ian that the BoM would not have checked the Post Office data. Re your question – “How do we stop these people from giving false information?”
We need an MP or Senator to ask simple questions at Senate estimates. That would help.
Here’s another bit of misleading tripe, from the end of the article:
“While views differ on if and why the region is short of water for irrigation, there’s one thing everyone agrees on: this has really highlighted the effects of a drying climate.
“All agree that in the future, farmers are going to need to look for more innovative ways to drought proof their properties.”
Of course no evidence is provided of a “drying climate”, and the dry year quoted in the article as being a bellwether for minimum rainfall is – 1987! But the author probably had to make a couple of ritual nods to the “consensus” on climate change to make sure the story would run.
When a certain % of water has to flow to SA, this makes it an even greater problem to drought-proof your property.
Anyway, what drying climate?
