  1. Very chilly Summer over here in New Zealand. Cannot really go anywhere without a jacket. NZ Herald article the other day about Kiws taking off for warmer places to enjoy Summer. All we have at the moment is humidity, the South Westerly wind seems to be prevailing. The only ones enjoying that are surf-board riders (in wetsuits of course) and kite surfers – also in wetsuits. Still waiting for our Summer to arrive !

  2. I love the certainty with which they prattle on – after the event. But utter zero in November that this cool summer was looming.

Almost half a metre of rain is predicted to fall in parts of the South Island over the next two days as torrential rain, thunderstorms and powerful winds are forecast to hit today.

The MetService has described the wild weather as a “bomb low,” which it describes as a rapidly deepening low pressure centre.

“This, combined with a strong boundary between warm and cold air, give it the energy required to start to rotate and deepen into a bomb low,” the weather agency said.

Just before 11am, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research said there were incredible rain totals expected for the west of the South Island over the next 42 hours, including in the Southern Alps where almost half a metre of rain was forecast.

Quotes – Temperatures are set to take a wintry turn as a sudden cold snap hits parts of the country.

Everywhere in the South Island will fall below 10C with Queenstown set to fall to a chilly 4C.

Central and lower North Island regions across the North Island will also shiver with Masterton on an unsummer-like 8C and Taupo on 9C.

The rest of the island will also feel the effects of the sudden cold snap with overnight temperatures sitting around or just above 10C.
