Tuesday the BoM put out this warning – BoM says hot Brisbane weather may come as ‘shock’ Five days later I just wonder who is shocked as Brisbane temperatures look boring normal as AWN shows.
Taxpayers should be shocked at paying for this feverish twaddle. Eventually Brisbane will get a hotter than normal day – nothing is more certain.
Here we are on Sunday afternoon near 1700EST and the BoM has not figured out what the maximum was on the 5th and the minimum on the 12th – I mean what can happen to change things now? 30 minute data is here. Searching Google for the ABC headline shows a small sample of how this BoM rubbish infests the media.
The BoM “forecast” is such a clanger of a fail with not even hint of a shocking hot day. Do BoM people just have a thought bubble and phone the meeja? And of course never a reprise to say how or why they were so wrong.
In Sydney, I notice that the BOM frequently forecasts days to be up to 3 degrees hotter than they turn out to be. The Headline is the thing people remember and they are relieved that it did not seem so hot, but forget the latter.
Lately the temperatures on TV are for different sites e.g. the day’s maximums for Adelaide surrounds will include Mt. Lofty and Hindmarsh Island, but the predictions will be for Mt. Barker and Victor Harbor. This makes it impossible for the ordinary person to do comparisons between guess and actual. Probably little difference between Hindmarsh Island and Victor, but Mt. Lofty would be anything up to 5℃ cooler that Mt. Barker. And more than double those living in Mt. Barker use that temperature as a guide (e.g. sporting associations have heat rules based on it).
It’s been an incredibly mild Summer in Brisbane this year, actually.
