New Australian Bureau of Meteorology heatwave alert system

What do readers think of this ?
Does anybody feel the need for more information other than weather forecasts we access every day now ?
Smells to me like just another way to beat up normal very hot days.

  1. How about the BOM gives the farmers a cold weather and frost report too? It would make as much sense as a special heat wave alert. However, they won’t do it because there is no CAGW mileage in it. This is all a follow up to their present policy of over-forecasting hot weather to grab the headlines and weather-memory of the population before the event.

  2. Frankly, ridiculous. It’s not using absolute temperatures. It could show Hobart with a heatwave, and Perth not, even though Perth was much hotter.

will be based on how far conditions are expected to depart from historical mean temperatures for a particular area, and from the warmth over the preceding 30-day period.

    And the usual misleading propaganda.

Excessive heat causes more deaths than other hazards such as bushfires, cyclones and floods, research has found.

But excessive cold kills far more. The hottest months in Australia have the lowest death rates. Which means hot weather in fact saves lives.
