Not far enough though – but a start.
Department Secretary Blair Comley announced job cuts were imminent and far greater than had been originally forecast.
“Only a week ago, Kate Lundy said she was pleased there would be no forced redundancies”, Senator Humphries said today.
It’s never fun to be sacked (been there, done that!). My sympathy for the staff.
But on a larger scale, how does Labor imagine that the Carbon Tax will operate now? They needed a vast expansion of staff to administer their intentions. No able (or ambitious) civil servant will go anywhere near the Dept. now.
And the effect on morale in the Public Service will be bad. There won’t be anybody rallying around the Old Red Flag now. Labor won’t be able to portray Abbott as the Reaper of (job) Death now; well, they’ll try, but it won’t carry any weight. Neither the Unions nor the Greens will feel at all happy about this, not that I care, but the Federal Gov. isn’t relying on my support.
I am sure there is a movie in this; “Those whom the gods destroy”? “The last days of Yarralumla”? or could we work Godzilla into the title?
I welcome suggestions.
